Since I live in NY I've been walking a lot on crowded and very busy streets. Despite no-honking laws, honking is by far the favored form of "communication" among drivers, and it's not pretty.

Despite what you might think, honking does not make traffic go faster. It is just annoying and obnoxious, ESPECIALLY to pedestrians.

I'd like to see a pedestrian horn being marketed to urban dwellers, along the lines of a hand-held fog horn, but not as loud and a bit more compact. This would allow pedestrians to honk back at offending drivers and perhaps make them think twice about honking out of frustration...
